5 Reasons A Quality Omega-3 Deserves A Place In Your Preconception Plan

5 Reasons A Quality Omega-3 Deserves A Place In Your Preconception Plan

The wait is over! We’re so excited to introduce the newest addition to the Sproutling preconception range - Nourish omega’s

So, why are we so excited about omega-3s for preconception?

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that play important roles throughout the body, including healthy hormone function, reproductive health and egg and sperm quality. They’re also particularly important during pregnancy, with DHA playing a key role in your baby’s brain and eye development.

The catch? Our bodies can’t make these essential fats from scratch, so we need to get them through our diet or supplementation. While oily fish and other omega-3-rich foods are great sources, many Australians simply aren’t getting enough. In fact, approximately 3 in 4 Australians aren’t reaching recommended omega-3 intakes.

That’s where a quality omega-3 can be a valuable addition to your preconception plan.

So, what makes omega-3s so important before pregnancy?

1. Healthy hormone function

Omega-3s play an important role in cell communication and hormonal signalling, providing nutritional support for healthy hormone production and reproductive function.

2. Egg + sperm health

Eggs and sperm are highly specialised cells, and both can be affected by oxidative stress and the nutritional environment in which they develop. Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA, are important components of cell membranes and play a role in normal cellular function supporting egg and sperm quality.

3. A healthy inflammatory response

Inflammation is a natural and necessary part of reproduction, with carefully regulated inflammatory processes involved in ovulation and implantation. Omega-3s support the body’s natural inflammatory pathways and a healthy inflammatory response, therefore supporting healthy hormones & fertility.

4. Preparing for pregnancy

DHA is particularly important during pregnancy for your baby’s brain and eye development, so building healthy nutritional foundations before conception means you’re already supporting adequate omega-3 intake as you enter pregnancy.

5. Quality matters

Not all omega-3 supplements are created equal. When choosing one for preconception, it’s worth looking at the source and form, EPA and DHA content, purity and contaminant testing, freshness and oxidation, and whether the product is suitable for preconception and pregnancy.

That’s exactly why we’ve carefully selected Nourish Omega’s as the newest addition to our preconception range.

Designed to complement Falli for her and Seedra for him, it provides additional nutritional support for both partners during the important months leading up to conception.
