The fertility advice we wish more women heard

The fertility advice we wish more women heard

When you’re trying to conceive, it can feel like there’s an endless list of things you should be doing. It can become overwhelming quickly with different information, options and opinions. So we wanted to put together a list of key fertility tips we wish more women heard when preparing for a family.

1. Quality over quantity when it comes to supplements

More supplements don’t necessarily mean better fertility.

Rather than taking a long list of individual products, focus on quality, evidence-based nutrients that are relevant to your individual needs. A good preconception formula can help provide key nutrients to support reproductive health without having to build your own supplement stack.

And preconception support isn't just for women. Falli is our female preconception formula, while Seedra provides targeted nutritional support for men because egg and sperm health both matter when preparing for conception.

2. Egg and sperm health both matter

It takes two to make an embryo, so preconception care should be looked at by both parties!

The health of both egg and sperm can be influenced by nutrition, lifestyle and overall health. Both the egg and sperm take time to develop and everything you do during this 3 month window can make a difference to your fertility.

Here are the main tips we recommend:Eat a nutrient-dense, wholefood diet, prioritise protein and healthy fats, get regular movement, support good sleep, manage stress and minimise stimulants including excessive caffeine, alcohol plus smoking/vaping and other lifestyle factors that may can reproductive health.

Small, consistent changes can make a difference to your overall health and that's a great place to start when preparing for pregnancy.

3. Tune into your body

Understanding your menstrual cycle can give you valuable information when you're trying to conceive.

There are several ways to track ovulation, including basal body temperature (BBT), cervical mucus changes, ovulation predictor kits and cycle tracking apps. The most accurate way to track ovulation is through BBT charting and cervical mucous changes, we love the app - Kindara to help you track these.

Learning your individual cycle can help you understand when you're most fertile and become more familiar with the signs your body is giving you.

4. Testing can be an important part of preparation

A general health check and blood testing can help identify areas that may benefit from attention before you start trying. Depending on your individual circumstances, this may include looking at things such as iron, B12, folate, vitamin D, thyroid function, blood glucose and other relevant markers.

This is where working with a naturopath can be particularly valuable. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we can look at your health history, symptoms, diet, lifestyle and testing to identify where nutritional and lifestyle support may be beneficial.

Preparing for pregnancy doesn't have to be overwhelming

You don't need to do everything perfectly! Start with the foundations, look after your overall health, understand your cycle, identify any nutritional gaps, and make positive changes together as a couple.

Because preparing for pregnancy isn't just about getting pregnant, it's about creating the healthiest foundation possible for the journey ahead.
